Welcome to the Santa Cruz County Science and Engineering Fair!

The 2022 Science and Engineering Fair will be held on March 19, 2022 at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds.

We recognize the potential for Science & Engineering Fairs to be ideal incubators for inspiring and empowering our next generation of innovators when those fairs align with the following principles:

  1. The fair must be specifically designed to be inclusive and serve all students equally, regardless of the amount of outside or in-class support they receive during their projects.

  2. Students should be given the option of whether or not they would like to “compete” against other students and have their assessment or placement of their work to be open to the public. (Beginning with 2022-2023 Fair)

  3. Through an interview, all students who participate in a fair should be assessed based on their learning experience and their demonstration of 21st Century Skills and NGSS Science and Engineering Practices and they should be given constructive feedback that can help them grow.

  4. The Fair Organizer must clearly and effectively communicate the expectations of the students’ experiences and the structure for success to students, parents, and teachers in order for students to have positive and successful project experiences.

  5. Students should be allowed to enter projects in the fair that follow different scientific or engineering methods, such as Scientific Inquiry, Engineering Design, Case Study, Computer Science, Theoretical, or Experimental (“The” Scientific Method).

Welcome to the Santa Cruz County Science and Engineering Fair!

Dear Science & Engineering Fair Judge:

The Santa Cruz County Office of Education would like to thank you and welcome you to the Santa Cruz Science & Engineering Fair, March 19, 2022. We will agin be in-person, but will still have the opportunity to preview projects on this site.  All attendees will be required to wear masks indoors as per CDC guidelines.

Please create an account or login to an account you've already created (if you see your name in the menu at the top right, you are already logged in). The menu dropdown from your name on your upper right screen lets you access your Profile, under which is a Judges tab, where you can set or update your category preferences. For returning judges, updating your category preferences helps us recognize your participation for this year, and not simply assume that you are continuing from last year.

We hope for your flexibility in these categories, as we balance the numbers of students and judges. The Additional Information text box on your Judges tab is there to indicate your flexibility (e.g. Any life or environmental science) and any conflicts of interest you may have (child or student in a specific category).

Judges may preview projects from March 12th to March 18th using this website.  Please see the Judges Guide linked below for more detailed information.
Science Fair Judges Guide

Interviews and Judging:

  • All interviews and judging will be conducted in-person on March 19th starting at 9 a.m.
  • Final deliberations follow lunch. Most judges complete their duties by mid-afternoon. However, all judging closes at 5:00 p.m.

We appreciate your contribution and want to thank you for your commitment as a science fair judge. Please encourage your colleagues to join us. Please contact us if you need more information.

Sincerely,
